World's Best Nature Films

World's best nature films (updated 1/03/13) *=new
Dir: Jacques Perrin, Jacques Cluzaud, Michel Debats, 2001, France (10*) Perhaps the best feature length documentary film, seven years in the making The terrific Australian film Walkabout was the first dvd I ordered, and is just as much a romance film as anything else. When you watch it, write down the poem from end of the film. Doc of course refers to documentaries.

Personally, I would have liked seeing Koyaanisqatsi (and possibly the other instances of the Qatsi trilogy) in this category.

You've definetly missed Baraka!

Ironically, I had just seen Baraka about the time you wrote this.. it's excellent, I reviewed it at 1000 Dvds to See, then added it here.. great one! mind-blowing.. I "got it" from the opening, of the red-face monkey in the hot pool in the Himilayas.. incredible stuff!

I have seen Apocalypto, and even though not a "Mel hater" like many (he's right about the Judeo-Christian religions causing all the wars), this was good but not one of my favorites. I'm not sure it would be a Nature film, and even if so, I would not include it in this list.

WINGED MIGRATION was the best nature docmentry far better then that rotten BOWLING for COLOMBINE from that liiar MICHEAL MOORE

José Sinclair said...

yes, Winged Migration was just about the best documentary feature ever made, imo..

but Bowling for Columbine (2002), Michael Moore's controversial documentary relating gun control and the culture of fear in the United States, heads the list of 20 all-time favorite non-fiction films selected by members of the International Documentary Association - from Wikipedia

someone (like Moore and others) has to try to offset the steady stream of major corporate propaganda that passes for 'the media' these days, it's all disinformation, the CIA has admitted to authoring 80% of our 'news' in court, and the Sr Bush was one who testified, the smart one..
