Top Ranked Comedy Films from Other Genres

These are the top-ranked comedies from miscellaneous genres that we haven't covered yet, so not romantic, society, war, or crime comedies. These came from childrens, SciFi, fantasy, horror, westerns, music (not musicals, but think Spinal Tap), shorts, and 'dramedy' or combination drama/comedy films, both a bad word invention and usually a bad film idea. We'll later post a ranking of ALL COMEDIES in one big list.

I can't think of anything to add here, because it's such a mixed group. I will say that I love the kids and SF/fantasy comedies (Toy Story, Wall-E, Back to the Future, Princess Bride, Big Fish), but I usually hate westerns being made into comedies, like Cat Ballou and Butch Cassidy - could any self-respecting western include B.J. Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"? yikes.. it's a western, not a high school comedy.

OK, Add These:
Time Bandits [Terry Gilliam, 1981] - terrific, crazy fantasy, one of Gilliam's most accessible, as a gang of God's midget helpers steal his map of the time gates in the universe and frolic through time, bringing a wide-eyed kid along for the ride, whose bedroom held one time gate. Features Sean Connery, Shelly Duvall, David Warner as "pure evil", and James Mason as God.

The Loved One [Tony Richardson, 1965] - brilliant, offbeat bw comedy about a fancy L.A. funeral parlor, from the Evelyn Waugh novel; this one is not like anything else. A black comedy, really belongs with society comedies, I believe.
